Angela Evelyn Bassett was born in the US. She is known for her roles in television and in film since the late 1980s she's won numerous awards such as two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was brought up in Winston-Salem North Carolina by her aunt, who was born in New York New York, is well-known as an actor. Bassett, her sister, and their mother relocated from the city of Winston-Salem to St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was five. Their father had split from the mother of their children. Bassett was in high school when she saw the James Earl Jones staring John Steinbeck production Of Mice and Men and was aware that her goal of becoming an actor had been realized. The year was 1980 and Bassett graduated from Yale University New Haven Connecticut with a degree in African American studies. She also received a degree from The Yale School of Drama. While at Yale she met Courtney B. Vance a fellow actor and the two were married in 1997.
